Bruiser Wolf - POTLUCK
POTLUCK presents an immediate paradox: while Bruiser Wolf's trajectory seems to be heading towards a more raw introspection, the album chooses to conclude the confrontation with a powerful rhythmic blast. Unlike the street storytelling formulas that dominated My Story Got Stories (2024) and Dope Game Stupid, this opus is defined by a radical stylistic shift towards "head-knocking" sounds, transforming the artist into the head chef of a kitchen where truth, absurdity, and wisdom are served in equal measure.
Air Fryer & Baby You: Harry Fraud, a continuous link with MADE BY DOPE
The collaborative explosion reaches its peak with « Pee-wee Herman », a centerpiece that brings together Squadda B, Chilly Gonzales, and DJ Lucas. Squadda B handles the production, while the presence of Chilly Gonzales adds a touch of instrumental complexity, reminiscent of their previous collaboration on "Open the Kimono" from the Gonzo (2024) album. DJ Lucas completes this eclectic trio, adding his distinctive voice to the song's vocal mosaic. This track is the perfect example of the album's transparent and collaborative approach, where each contributor brings a specific style without breaking the overall coherence.
Lock In feat. Sango and Offer I Couldn't Refuse feat. F1LTHY: The energy of confirmed collaborations
The exploration of diverse approaches continues with tracks that validate the analysis of beat rotation. On "Lock In", Sango co-produces the track with Jake One, bringing his vocal and rhythmic style to create a unique energy. Further on the album, on "Offer I Couldn't Refuse", it's F1LTHY who produces and sings the track, injecting his own vocal and production style to energize the listening experience. These two tracks demonstrate that POTLUCK doesn't rely on a single sonic foundation but explores a wide range of styles through various historical and contemporary figures like Sir Michael Rocks or Fat Ray, although their contributions are integrated into other aspects of the project.
Write or Wrong & Trust Issues: The tracks that structure the core of the project
The density of productive contributions confirms a desire to diversify sonic architectures beyond simple vocal performances. This rotation of production roles also extends to instrumental or solo tracks: Sheefy McFly returns to produce track 2, as well as the final track on the album, "Over Looks," while track 8, "Trust Issues," and track 13, "Confusing," are respectively entrusted to Greg Zola and co-produced by the producers 1981 Tokyo and Ayochillmannn. This distribution shows that POTLUCK is a true laboratory where each contributor brings their unique technical signature, transforming the album into a mosaic of distinct styles rather than a simple sequence of appearances. The place of this album in Bruiser Wolf's discography marks a turning point between two active periods. Released on May 30, 2025, on the label Fake Shore Drive, POTLUCK chronologically sits between its previous studio album, My Story Got Stories (2024), and the release of MADE BY DOPE, also dated 2025. Although these two projects share the same reference year, POTLUCK stands out for its massive collaborative nature: out of the fourteen tracks that make up the album, ten include a featured artist, compared to only four collaborations with Harry Fraud for MADE BY DOPE. This strategy of opening up to a wide range of talents, from Sir Michael Rocks to Nebr, passing through The Tiger, positions POTLUCK as a large-scale collective project that goes beyond the close relationships observed on its immediate successor. Beyond the collaborations, the very structure of the album is based on multifaceted writing. Sheefy McFly's production of "Write or Wrong" and his final signature on the last track, "Over Looks," suggests a role as a sonic architect who unites sound and image throughout the project.
