SCH - JVLIVS III : Ad Finem
JVLIVS III: Ad Finem does not close the story as one might expect. This seventh studio album, released on December 6, 2024, via Maison Baron Rouge and Warner Music France, is no longer a sequel to a tale of patronage or murder. It is an act of rupture with its own fiction. SCH uses this album to assert that he no longer resides within the mafia story he constructed since 2018, but rather in a raw reality where he must contend with other voices and other worlds.
Ad Finem: The End of the Tetralogy as Rupture with the Mafia Myth
The album presents itself as the final link in a narrative chain launched in 2018, but its true function is to deconstruct its foundations. It is no longer about extending the saga; it is about marking distance between the artist and the character he embodied for six years. The sonic density of the project — 18 tracks totaling nearly 57 minutes — reflects this tension between a narrative past that is still present and a present that demands other rules.
Productive Fragmentation: Inner Chaos and Narrative Coherence
The production is marked by a deliberate heterogeneity. Augustin Charnet and Guilherme Alves dominate the album with thirteen tracks, but Seezy, Vito Bendinelli, Luc Blanchot, and Monomite appear regularly, while Woosbad, Cameliro, Amakuno, or Geo On The Track add distinct touches to other songs. This fragmentation is not a flaw: it reflects the idea that the end of the myth goes hand in hand with a total loss of control over the sound. Each producer imposes their signature without this being a uniform stylistic choice, but rather a representation of the inner chaos of a man freed from his narrative cage yet still imprisoned by his past.
Soldi famiglia and 02:00: featuring as an anchor in a world outside the mafia
Only two tracks feature official collaborations, and they do not serve to expand the mafia universe. On "Soldi famiglia," Sfera Ebbasta revisits ground already shared between them: SCH had been invited by him on "Balenciaga" in 2016, then on "Cartine Cartier" from the album Anarchie (2016). This time, the collaboration does not extend a mafia relationship; it anchors SCH in a present where he must compose with other voices. On "02:00," Damso adds his own collaborative dimension to the end of the project without extending the plotline: it is another world superimposed on the closed narrative. These two features are not thematic extensions; they are markers of an exit from the mafia system.
"White Light (Ad Finem)": metaphor of emancipation rather than a simple rock climax
The final track, which closes the album, is not a return to rock as a thematic climax. It is a visual metaphor for light finally breaking through after confinement. The delirious guitar solo worthy of the greatest rock stars does not serve to celebrate an aesthetic; it symbolizes the passage from myth to reality, the end of a narrative to enter a present where the rapper's voice is no longer that of a fictional character but of a man redefining himself.
Verdict: an album that does not conclude a story, but liberates a character
JVLIVS III: Ad Finem does not conclude a story; it liberates a character. Between the productive fragmentation, the features that mark a distance from the mafia myth, and the rock ending as a metaphor for emancipation, this album functions more as a breaking point than an arrival point. SCH is no longer the one telling a crime story: he is the one who emerges from it.
