Founded in 1996 in San Juan, Cultura Profética emerged from the Puerto Rican reggae scene. Initially a cover band performing in bars and clubs, the group quickly developed its own identity by switching to original Spanish-language music. The name "Cultura Profética" reflects a vision where music acts as a voice for culture and a prophetic message on current issues. The founding members, including Willy Rodríguez, Boris Bilbraut, Eliut González, and Omar Silva, bonded over a shared interest in reggae, particularly the work of Bob Marley, which would significantly influence their artistic approach.

First albums and Tuff Gong experience
The group quickly gained popularity on the local scene before recording their first album, "Canción de alerta," in 1998. This historic album was recorded at the Tuff Gong studios in Jamaica with Errol Brown, marking the first Spanish-language project to work in these legendary studios. The album addresses social issues and the importance of African influence on the island. In 2000, the release of "Ideas nuevas" showed a desire for rhythmic experimentation, incorporating bossa nova, salsa, ska, and jazz. This period also saw a performance at the Tito Puente amphitheater, with a recording published under the title "Cultura en Vivo."
Diario and international expansion
In 2004, the group released Diario, an album designed to represent daily life in Puerto Rico, including interludes of conversations and ambient sounds. The following year, after a temporary stay in Mexico, M.O.T.A. was released in 2005. This album reached number 12 on the Billboard Hot Latin Albums chart and was accompanied by a collaboration with Puerto Rican rapper Vico C on the track "Te Me Puedo Escapar." The group's international career accelerated with tours throughout Latin America, a performance at the Coliseum Jose Miguel Agrelot released on DVD, and the release of the live album "Tribute to the Legend: Bob Marley" in 2007.
La Mafafa and La dulzura
In 2010, Cultura Profética marked a major turning point with the release of La dulzura, their first album on their own independent label, La Mafafa. This decision was driven by a desire for artistic freedom in the face of the challenges of the music market at the time. The album represents a stylistic and lyrical evolution towards more romantic themes, moving away from the previous political concerns. Songs like "La Complicidad" became radio hits, while influences such as Argentine tango enriched the sound, particularly on "Del Tope al Fondo."
Sobrevolando and En bucle
Following the release of "Sobrevolando" in 2019, the group continues to explore its discography with instrumental projects and recent albums. In June 2026, the album "En Bucle" was released, marking a career full of experimentation. Popular tracks among fans include "Ilegal," "Mantis," "Llévame," and "Para Estar," demonstrating a loyal audience. Releases such as "Saca, Prende y Sorprende" and "Musica Sin Tiempo" illustrate the group's consistency in musical innovation while maintaining a strong connection with its reggae and Latin roots.
